I have been in contact with the spirits of the land and my helping spirits since childhood.
My meeting with the spirit of the drum was love at first hearing and is among the most fulfilling relationships in my life.
It is through the interweaving of these relationships that my drum making comes about, each drum being made
very specifically for a particular person, usually with one dominant purpose.
My work is greatly inspired by the spiritual teachings I have received - as well as my on-going education from
the spirits themselves. I have undertaken a number of courses aimed both at
personal and spiritual development and the honing of practical and more liminal skills. I have been working most
recently with Simon Buxton, Naomi Lewis and Kate Shela of
The Sacred Trust; undertaking - amongst other things - the two year Shamanic Practitioner Training and an ongoing
private training in the ways of the Melissae; the distaff members of The Path of Pollen (a little known yet well-trodden
European spiritual path that works with the honeybee and the hive). In the past I have worked with Jill Purce both
as a student and as a drummer for her Shamanic and Zen Trance Dance Ceremonies. I both run and participate in
drum circles and play the drum not only as a spiritual tool but also for pleasure.
As a creator of drums with hide, leather, wood and earth pigments, I am experienced in making other unique sacred
objects, gifts, tools and instruments as guided by Spirit for the individual client (these have included rattles,
bags in which to put sacred objects, talisman necklaces and so on), please don't hesitate to
enquire if you need a similar creation.
Alongside making drums I practice as a teacher of both Drum Making and basic elements of shamanism and as a
Shamanic Healer (see the page on Shamanism for what this might entail) and can be contacted through
this site in this respect. Email sue at dartmoordrums.co.uk. or Phone us on 01647 277164.

The healing power of drum's rhythms has been in my life for twenty years, my relationship with the frame drum
has developed through my experiences drumming in shamanic and zen trance dance ceremonies, within the
mysteries of the British Isles, running a drumming circle and drumming with friends or alone for mediatation,
healing and pleasure. Drawing from my interest in natural and elemental forms, ancient and prehistoric art
and the power of symbol, the images for the drums are birthed as a result of the interweaving between the
images given to Suzi, my intuitive knowings and the drum's purpose.
